Surprisingly, I've seen 38 of those movies. Not bad.
After so many months of saying "I must go see this..." and "I want to see this...", I finally went to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets with my cousin. I really didn't have much expectations regarding this movie except that it'd be a little smart, over the top, and a balding Nicholas Cage. I was pleasantly surprised with the route that the writers took with this particular film, setting it several years later than the first, acknowledging that Nick Cage was getting older (he wore reading glasses in this movie) and even adding a little bit of dysfunctional family humour to it. Nevermind that it was two hours jam-packed full of action! It definitely had more action than the last, although the whole "discovery" was less awe-worthy compared to the first. Still, considering that it's a sequel, I would say it's much better than a lot of the sequels that have come out in recent years. For people who need a rather mind-numbing movie (meaning, nothing that requires a lot of thinking or guessing), this movie is a great choice. It's also a great "date" movie for people who are just starting a new relationship. It's nothing too sappy or romantic, and I firmly believe that both parties would enjoy it. (And as my cousin said, the girl is hot, so that's always a plus for the guys).
Unlike last weekend, I went to the theatres instead of watching DVDs. I saw two movies, one yesterday and one today. Yesterday, I saw Die Hard 4 with my cousin Victor. Today, I saw Bourne Ultimatum with Victor and Clinton (also my cousin). Both movies were really good on a totally different level. DH4 was the more mind-numbing type, in a sense you don't really have to consider the story as it's pretty basic. But the action was fantastic. Bourne Ultimatum was much more about the story, although the action was just as good. The writers did a very good job of connection the trilogy together, and my feeling was that Bourne 2 and Bourne 3 actually were linked with a great overlap. It was fantastic to see Bourne 3 picking up from where we left off last time. Matt Damon did a fantastic job, and I'm quite sad to see the trilogy end. I hope that they'll bring Matt Damon back for a Bourne 4 to really wrap things up... I felt that Bourne 3, although I was satisfied, still left some me with some quesitons. I also want to see what happens to Julia Stile's character Nikki. I have a feeling she fell for Jason Bourne. I want to see if they'll somehow get back together, and possibly live a normal life.
Just saw the movie Shooter which stars Mark Wahlberg as a disenchanted war veteran (Bob Lee Swagger) that had been abandoned by the US government in a time of need. After surviving the abandonment, Swagger goes into seclusion. Years later, he is lured out to be framed for assassinating a very important political person. I won't go on as I'll spoil the movie, but needless to say, a very suspenseful movie! I really enjoyed this movie, and was able to sit through the entire movie without fast forwarding or going to the bathroom as I watched it at home. I actually haven't been able to do that with too many films recently, so the fact that this one captured me as such shows just how intense it was.
What was even more interesting was that I actually hadn't heard about this film. I am a major movie buff, and always up for juicy gossip when it comes to Hollywood. So when I saw it on the shelf, I was like "What's this? When was this made?" Curiosity got the better of me, leading to the purchase of this on DVD. I was pleasantly shocked by the movie, and even more so that I didn't know about this before hand. I think this is a movie I would've paid to go watch in the theatres. Again, this doesn't happen too often. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Wahlberg is the lead character. I've always found him to be rather attractive, and have followed his career through several films including The Italian Job. Thus, I highly recommend this film!
My one pet peeve: I wish that Wahlberg had been clean shaven in this movie. I enjoy men clean shaven better.
If you could watch any movie on the big screen right at this moment, what would it be?
Cruel Intentions.
That is my absolute favorite movie, and to be able to watch in on the
big screen (or even in widescreen high definition) would be so good.
Although it's not an action movie with any special effects, Cruel Intentions has some gorgeous sets, and in addition to how pretty the people are, it just makes for a beautiful picture to watch.
