Un-freaking-believable! It's March 28th and it's snowing! Not only was it snowing today, it was snowing yesterday. But last night was mild, and it wasn't sticking. But this morning was crazy! Not only was it snowing, but it was big flakes that were sticking to everything! It flurried when I was driving to work, and it was really coming down at about 9:30am. The two pictures in this post is from last night when it was snowing. I would've taken pictures today, but I was at work. Luckily, it all ended around 1PM, so I didn't have issues driving home. But keep in mind, this is Vancouver. It doesn't snow in March. Arg!
So since Xmas is over, I thought that I needed to change my theme in Vox. I thought that this particular theme was quite appropriate since it's been snowing here again. It snowed yesterday in the middle of the afternoon, and then again at night. We have a snowfall warning in effect for tonight, tomorrow morning, tomorrow evening and beyond. The snowfall warning is not in effect tomorrow afternoon as it is expected to rain. However, I work and live in higher elevations where even when it rains in the Lower Mainland, it's snowing where I am. *sigh*
Have you ever had a winter without snow?
Ever since arriving in Canada, I've had snow every winter. However, I didn't always live in Vancouver. For the first several years of my life, I lived half-way around the world, in a warmer locale that did not get snow. Winters were still cold, although not as cold as Canada. I remember those days and look back at the pictures where I'm warmly wrapped up in cute little wool jackets, playing with fireworks, enjoying buffets and parties, but the weather was always clear. I never had to fear days that I would be forced to stay at home because of snow. Now, snow is a normal part of my winter. There are days where I hardly leave the house because of it, and that seems to be okay. Still, I'd like to go back to the days where winter had no snow. Life was simply easier then. Cold I don't mind... snow, I can live without.
So we had snow, and now we have rain... pouring to the point of flooding. It's absolutely crazy. My drive to and from work wasn't bad, despite the lower visibility. I managed safely, and didn't land in any "lakes" as I had heard from the radio. You would think that this year would be better than the last but of course it isn't. Because of the crazy weather last year, much of the Stanley Park Seawall was closed, and only recently reopened. But some parts of it is closed again due to the heavy rainfall of today. We had a mudslide! I didn't believe it until I read about it just now. Unbelievable!
Because of the snow, I dd nothing today but stayed home. Ruby and I broke out some movies, nail polish and just relaxed. So yesterday, I had went to buy the OPI nail polish and thought I had finally gotten the colour I had wanted (from the manicure I had last week). So I tried out the new bottle, and as it turned out, they were wrong. The colour wasn't the same one. It was a redder base, compared to the purple base I had from before. Still, the new bottle is a really nice colour and puts me into a really Christmasy mood. I'd still like to get the purple-base, but the OPI polish is quite expensive, so I'm not sure I'll be getting another bottle anytime soon. Besides the fun girly stuff, we've been watching movies. Ironically, we've been watching Eight Below and The Day After Tomorrow. Both movies involed massive snow storms. And what was going on in Vancouver - a snow storm! Now it's a rian storm.
Snow continues to fall in the Lower Mainland, and as a result, I'm indoors. I had wanted to do some Xmas shopping today, but that's not happening. It's not really safe to drive at this point. When I woke up, I thought "Perfect, the snow stopped". But that was quickly dashed as less than an hour later, I looked out my window, and huge flakes of snow were coming down. It's now close to noon, and the snow fall continues. However, according to the weather report, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Supposedly, we're in for a huge rain storm this evening and into tomorrow. Hopefully, this means that the rain will wash the snow away. As long as we don't fall below freezing, all will be well. However, if we're under freezing, then that means the roads will be very slick and icy on Monday. Sadly, I do have to work on Monday, so I'll have to forge my way through the treacherous weather.
Well, Vancouver got its first round of snow today... and I had to go to work. That was joy! So the story goes, I drove to work this morning, leaving the house early. We had no snow at my house, but once I hit Burnaby... BAM! Snow! Coquitlam wasn't too bad and I managed to get to work just fine. People started calling to cancel classes and test for 9am. I thought, "Great, maybe it'll be a slow day". No such luck! First, my assistant called to cancel. I was like "okay, I need someone to replace him because I can't work by myself today". Made some calls and finally found someone. Then, the snow stopped, which was good. People came. Did my work... of course, because everyone came, my day seemed never-ending. I finally got to leave at about twenty to two, which was forty minutes after I was supposed to be off. Then... I drove home, and home was bad! I was crazy though. I went to buy nail polish. Side Note: The people at the place down at the mall were great. They got me the exact colour I wanted and a top-coat. It cost quite a bit, but that was fine. Still cheaper than a manicure. Okay, back to the driving and snow. Finall got home at 2:30pm, had lunch (by then I was starving), and did my nails. Overall, not too bad except that I'm freezing.
I can't believe it! It snowed again! (Remember, I live in Vancouver... there should be very little snow). Anyways, it snowed enough that there's at least an inch settled on top of my car. Hopefully, it'll melt today. According to The Weather Network, we're supposed to get rain int he afternoon. Let's hope. *crosses fingers*
