So I was reading this article (http://www.slate.com/id/2195676/?GT1=38001) about Starbucks needing to close over 600 stores in the US. It has a chart that breaks down where each are closing, and what percentage of Starbucks that is in the local market. For some of the places, they were losing upto 20% of their Starbucks. I feel really bad for the people who are losing their jobs, but at the same time, I can understand that the market is oversaturated. I mean, if you look at some of the states, they have more than 100 Starbucks. I think one State has some large astronomical number like 2000. Seriously, it's not surprising what's happening. Of course, I wish it wasn't happening for the sake of the people who are working there.
Things I loathe:
- Being hungry after eating.
- My sore feet due to high heels -- stupid dress code.
- My headache resulting from my headband.
- Getting interrupted all the time.
- Working long hours & Saturday.
- Forgetting something and going to work on Sunday!
- Office supplies not arriving as ordered.
Things I love:
- Trying out a new restaurant and liking it!
- Catching up with a friend over brunch - DeDutch Pannekoke House.
- Sleeping in today.
- Close to hitting budget at work.
- The many responses I got to my last post "Starbucks vs. Timmys". Thank you everyone!
- Finding that I can drink Timmy's Double-Double.
- Having last Friday off work!
Unwittingly, I've placed myself into a dilemma. I am a Starbucks lover, and have been since I was in high school. But recently, I've been stopping at Tim Horton's more (for those of you who are not Cdn, think Dunkin's Doughnuts). Why? For two reasons - 1) it's cheap, and 2) it's close to where I work. Admittedly, driving out of the way for Starbucks has never been an issue, it's more the price. Starbucks is expensive! And I'm currently trying to save up for a renovation project. Okay, so coffee doesn't really make such a large effect considering any cup is usually under $5. But with the amount I drink (frequency), multiplying it over months and years, it kind of adds up. So what should I do? Stay loyal to Starbucks? Or watch my wallet?
This was supposed to be my breakfast. But I was so busy at work, that I never got around to it. Instead, I brought it home. I only took the picture just now, as the picture I took this morning looked really bad. Mind you, this picture isn't that fantastic either. I had to use my Blackberry's built-in camera, and unfortunately, it isn't a great one. I'm going to have to try and use my new camera next time.
And today, was not a good day. I asked for a half-sweet, non-fat Vanilla Latte. Guess what? They forgot the Vanilla syrup. Of course, I didn't find this out until after I'd gotten to the office. I was so annoyed, but it was too late for me to go back and get it fixed. It was almost 9am. Grr!
Pumpkins appears to be that annual vegetable that shows up in the fall. I've never been a huge fan of pumpkins, and definitely not in my coffee. But I was chatting with a co-worker the other day, and she mentioned how good the Pumpkin Spice Lattee at Starbucks was. I was like, hmmm, I'll give that a try. I did, and paired it with a Pumpkin Cream Cheese muffin. It was pretty good. I'm not sure I'd necessarily go back for a second cup right away, but it was a nice change.
Speaking of Starbucks... they discontinued a couple of my favourite drinks, such as the Dulce du Leche Latte, and the Blueberry White Iced Tea. Grrr! Both were such fantastic drinks. And the White Iced Tea wa my favourite drink this summer. Grr!!

Okay, I'm now into day 2 of my diet. So far, so good. The first day, I ate the Teriyaki Chicken Breast Salad as I'd described in an earlier post. Unfortunately, there's no picture of that as I completely forgot to take a picture yesterday and just dug in. Today, I actually remembered (but it's a crappy picture considering I used the camera on my cellphone). I made the salad a little differently compared to yesterday, so I wouldn't be eating exactly the same thing all the time. Instead of chicken breast, I had egg (as protein), as well as avocado (in place of the tomato). The avocado wasn't so great because it wasn't really ripe. Note to self: don't buy Mexican avocados. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. I'm still pretty disciplined but it's only day 2. I did have a non-fat vanilla latte today at Starbucks, so I'm sure that threw the diet for a loop. Oh well.
I had my first cup of coffee last Friday after a self-imposed ... what's the word? Isolation? I don't know what word to use and my vocabulary base seems to fail me at this point... but I digress. I had my first cup of coffee and it was the most amazing feeling ever. I got one today too and man it was fantastic! Bug, I really should keep a close eye on how much I drink since it's not all that great for me... *sigh* Still... I love coffee!

My favorite Starbucks... White Chocolate Mocha, Vanilla Latte, Dulce de Leche Latte. I take them all non-fat, and in the case of Dulce de Leche Latte, half-sweet. It's definitely what wakes me up in the morning, but something that I have to stagger. I cannot take it all the time anymore. *cries*
Yesterday was my first day of work. *sigh* It was hectic. Let's just say that things did not going according to plan for anyone, and suddenly, I was thrown into the most intensive training ever! Needless to say, I was quite tired by the end of the day. It was even worse that I got kinda lost on the way home (again). I better get the hang of the route soon because this is nuts.
The good thing was, I did manage to get a coffee. From the looks of the kitchenette and what not, the two other people I'll be working with don't look to be coffee people (too bad). So the days I work mornings, I'm going to get coffee at Starbucks. On the late nights, I'll just make tea. It's so sad!
I was given homework - stuff to read last night. But I was so tired, I never got to it. The sad part is, I don't think I'm going to get much reading done while at home. I think I'm going to go into the office early, do the reading, and just observe the work place more. I want to check out the computer system, and stuff so I'm more familiar. I mean, two weeks from now, I'll be on my own (I'm shadowing someone right now), so I want to be able to ask questions now.
